Waldorf High School of Massachusetts Bay is seeking a part-time Spanish teacher. We are a very small (32 student), arts-integrated independent school. You will be warmly welcomed into a supportive, collaborative group of teachers and get to know each student well. The emphasis of our Spanish language program is on a holistic education in global Latino/Hispanic culture and developing a practical familiarity with the Spanish language through immersive instruction with small, mixed-level groups engaged with active, artistic methods of language learning and cultural experiences. Our ideal schedule would be Monday through Thursday, 10:30 to 12:30, with potential opportunities to offer language/culture electives or other courses if additional teaching hours are desired. (Fewer hours may also be possible if preferred.) If you are ready for the freedom and support to teach the way you know education should be, bring your creativity and inspiration to Waldorf High School (www.waldorfhighschool.org). Send resume, cover letter/personal statement, and references to Cedar Oliver, Director of School (email@example.com).
All faculty are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Classes will be in person, without masks or social distancing requirements. We view teaching as an art, and encourage you to craft educational experiences that reflect your personal ideals, strengths, and teaching philosophy. Physically and socially, your classroom should welcome students into a home-like environment that reflects both your personal connection to Spanish speaking culture(s) and a meaningful global perspective, where language learning supports the larger goal of global citizenship. You may use texts, technology, and curriculum resources of your choice, though we generally avoid “marching through the textbook” as an educational methodology. You should have enthusiasm for working with multi-level groups, accommodating opportunities for more advanced students to gain fluency while beginners develop a more basic comfort level with the language. Many of our students participate in foreign exchanges to Spanish speaking countries, which informs and motivates their classroom work. Experience or familiarity with Waldorf schools (the world’s largest and fastest growing network of independent, non-sectarian schools) is a plus, but not required. Native speaker of Spanish strongly preferred. Comfort incorporating singing, drama, dance, culinary and/or other arts, and field trips into your classroom work is a major plus, as is familiarity with other world languages.
