The Director of the UConn Student Union provides leadership and vision for a comprehensive, 220,000 square foot facility in the core of the Storrs campus. The multi-tenant student union facility includes meeting spaces, offices for the Department of Student Activities, Off-Campus & Commuter Students and ID Card, student organizations offices, cultural centers, campus radio and TV studios, a theater, a game room, quick service restaurants, and a food court.
The Director of the Student Union will ensure the Student Union is a welcoming space for all and the central programming venue for the University by providing an engaging and inviting environment that serves as the central gathering place for the UConn Community (over 28,000 annual reservations and 5,000 daily visitors).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee all day-to-day operations of the Student Union, in the area of Event Services, Building Services, and Business Operations, including an information desk and game room, the Student Union mall, and adjacent outside locations.
Provide direction to the thirty-plus full-time staff, graduate student(s), and one-hundred-plus student staff. Directly supervise four full-time staff, one graduate assistant, and eight student managers.
Oversee a budget of $4 million dollars annually, including funds for the management and upkeep of the student union building.
Direct the building program to maintain the overall facility to ensure a safe, welcoming, environment for all visitors.
Serve as primary liaison to all tenants of the facility, including the Department of Student Activities, Cultural Centers, Dining Services, Registered Student Organizations, University Police, ID Card Office, and four Quick Service Retail Outlets.
Serve as the liaison to the following University units including but not limited to Registrar's Office, Conference Services, Public Safety (Police, Fire, and Building Code Compliance), Environmental Health and Safety, Hawley Armory, Minors' Protection Office, General Counsel's Office, Office of Institutional Equity, and programming staff across the University.
Establish policies, procedures, and protocols for the development and utilization of the Student Union, in concert with the University.
Serve as a member of the University emergency operations team on an as-needed basis.
Serve on University committees as appropriate and other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Business, Communication, or related field.
Seven years demonstrated service in progressively responsible positions in student affairs/higher education, including fiscal management, staff hiring, training, and supervision.
Two years of experience in the field of event planning and production.
Demonstrated knowledge of facilities management.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships.
Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively.
Demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Demonstrated experience in student union/center operations.
Direct experience working in student affairs administration, higher education, or a related area.
Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of management.
Management experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
Demonstrated experience with strategic planning.
Demonstrated experience with service and outcome assessment activities.
Experience developing and implementing a multi-year capital improvement plan.
Experience with event management software.
Experience with using social media platforms.
Demonstrated involvement in, and commitment to, professional development.
