The Advanced Training Associate provides artistic leadership for the advanced teams artistic quality and programming. The individual is responsible for teaching and choreographing for advanced teams and companies to ensure program impact and performance excellence.The Advanced Training Associate is responsible to the Artistic Director for carrying out the mission and the policies of NDI New Mexico and being a steward of the organization’s mission and culture, representing the organization in the community. The Advanced Training Associate is part of NDI New Mexico’s artistic staff.
Teaching, Choreography, Directing
Teaches SWAT and Celebration Teams, all levels of jazz in the afterschool program at The Dance Barns program, and teaches in the Santa Fe In-school program.
Dance Barns Advanced Teams and Companies choreographer and rehearsal director as assigned
Creates choreography for all Advanced Teams for Outreach End-of-Year Events, Dance Barns Advanced Company and afterschool program performances.
Choreographs, teaches, and directs Santa Fe Special Events, including but not limited to fundraising, cultivation, and community outreach events
Teaches or directs Outreach and Afterschool summer programs as needed
Rehearsal director or assistant for guest choreographers working with advanced teams
Provide inspiration, content and embodiment of a high-level teacher and choreographer for jazz curriculum and Jazz throughout the NDI New Mexico programs.
As assigned by Artistic Director, partners with other directors and teaching staff as creative advisor, partner, or mentor to develop Advanced Teams choreography to ensure performance excellence for Outreach and Afterschool performances, in line with purpose and vision for events and with program outcomes goals for Advanced Training.
Special Events and Projects
Produces Santa Fe Advanced Teams and Company special events, including planning, creation, and distribution of production schedules and timelines, planning and communication with staff, students, families, and offsite venues and vendors as needed. (approximately 5-6 per year)
Produces End-of-Year Event Specialty programs and rehearsals including Tiny Tots, Parents-Teachers, Firefighters, and SWAT/CEL specialty rehearsals, planning and communicating schedules and casting in coordination with Santa Fe Outreach Artistic Director
Secures and coordinates special guests/master teachers/choreographers for teams
Leads Internal Promotion and Recruiting for Afterschool and Advanced Teams: Through direct communication and building relationships with students and families as well as communication with Artistic Directors, lead, plan, and implement program initiatives which build bridges between in-school, SWAT/CEL, and afterschool/companies in Santa Fe, to building enrollment from one program to the other as well developing and implementing ideas to address specific program goals such as increasing demographic diversity
Supports Outreach and Afterschool performances as part of the backstage staff (deck manager, runner, house manager as needed)
Cultivates Relationships with Community Stakeholders
Develops positive relationships with parent volunteers to engage families in the program, inspiring their commitment, and enlisting and coordinating their support for events
Fosters positive relations, and acts as an advocate for the organization with all stakeholders in the program.
Job Specific Requirements:
Requires 2-5 years of experience in job related duties – teaching, choreography, and directing, with primary focus on jazz technique, secondary experience in ballet and/or musical theater
Professional dance performing experience and/or Bachelor’s degree in dance related field.
Proven leadership and experience in artistic program development and production.
Experience with project management and live theater production
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience managing artistic projects and staff.
Solves problems by identifying causes, gathering and processing relevant information, generating possible solutions, making recommendations, and bringing issue to resolution.
