Merion Mercy Academy, an independent Catholic girls’ school outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeks a dynamic and student-centered educator versed in current trends, research, and emerging ideas in education to serve as the Director of MMMT. This is a part time position beginning in August 2021.
The ideal candidate will inspire students to participate in the musical theater program and will lead a team to deliver high-quality, engaging and powerful theatrical experiences. He or she will embrace the school’s Mercy mission to promote a holistic education that is student-centered and encourages both artistic and personal excellence. He or she will be enthusiastic about teaching girls and will demonstrate skills in cross-cultural teaching and leadership practices, and be dedicated to working in a diverse community. He or she will contribute to and be committed to diversity.
Candidates must be creative, highly organized, and able to lead a team. He or she should be passionate about teaching and directing theater productions. He or she must be a team player with initiative, judgment, and problem-solving skills. Personal characteristics necessary for the position include positivity and enthusiasm for all aspects of school life; warmth and a good sense of humor; patience and persistence; and excellent communication skills.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Head of School for Academics, the Director of Musical Theater:
Reflects the school’s mission and core values as a Catholic school founded by the Sisters of Mercy.
Possesses strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.
Promotes and engages student leadership/mentorship opportunities.
Encourages collaborative teamwork, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully.
Organizes, plans, and directs and is responsible for all aspects of the production.
Ensure safety of students by adhering to both stage safety while on stage and general rules and regulations while on campus.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends and to increase availability leading up the performances.

A B.A. in either theater, theater education or a related performing arts field, master’s degree preferred.
3+ years of directing.
Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues, students and parents.
Enthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, and mentoring high school students.
Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
Independent school/girls’ school experience preferred.
