Job Description: King School seeks a part-time Assistant Band Director who will report to the Director of Performing Arts. This position will co-teach with members of the Performing Arts Faculty across the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools and will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of musical performances. This teacher will be expected to attend all department and divisional meetings and collaborate with other educators in order to advance the culture and direction of the Performing Arts program.
Primary responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to:
Support the Director of Instrumental Music and team teach classes in grades 6, 7 and 8 as needed.
Assist the Director of Instrumental Music with assessing instrument malfunctions and repairs in class.
Direct either the high school jazz combo or one of the chamber groups.
Coordinate and teach pull out lessons in brass, woodwinds and percussion for students in grades 3, 4, and 5.
Assist with all aspects of scheduled performances.
Bachelor's degree in music or music education.
Minimum of 2 years experience in teaching band to school age students.
Proficient in brass, woodwinds, and percussion.
Experience using digital audio workstations like Garageband and Soundtrap.
Demonstrated capacity in cross-cultural competence-- ability to effectively teach, learn, and engage in a multicultural environment with a diverse student body--in pedagogical practice and curriculum content.
