MUSIC LIBRARY ASSISTANT , MIT Libraries-Lewis Music Library , to preside over the operation, maintenance, and upgrading of audio/video equipment; provide reference desk support; and perform instruction and accounting duties. Responsibilities include overseeing the operation and repair of audio/video equipment and performing routine repairs; providing basic support for specialized software (score notation, audio recording/edition, visual programming, OMR, etc.); staying current on and suggesting audio software/hardware purchases; providing audio software/hardware training; publicizing/promoting the library's audio software/equipment/facilities; performing small in-house audio recording projects; operating A/V equipment; supporting the Oral History Program workflow; and assisting with training and directing the work of student assistants. Will also assist at the circulation desk; assist with music library instruction and tours; assist with donor cultivation and stewardship; order supplies; handle budget accounting and reports; train student assistants on circulation desk and library operations; and assist with other duties/projects as needed.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : high school diploma or its equivalent; two years' direct/related experience (post-high school education may count toward experience); broad knowledge of music and audio technology; strong technical skills for using library equipment/tools/resources; experience with standard software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, e-mail, and calendar) and ability to master new software/systems/technology; ability to generate reports and work with data; ability to assist staff/library patrons with use of technology/library equipment; attention to accuracy and detail; responsiveness to deadlines; and initiative, flexibility, and ability to work and learn in a rapidly changing environment. PREFERRED : post-secondary degree; experience working in an academic/research library, working with Alma or another integrated library system, and training/directing student assistants; excellent customer service, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; and ability to work with minimal supervision.
