Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: April 26, 2021 Departmental Overview The UC Berkeley Center for New Music and Audio Technologies (CNMAT) houses programs in research, pedagogy and public performance that are focused on the creative interaction between music and technology. Research CNMAT partners with the Department of Music and is linked with a number of affiliate units and faculty on campus including: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), The College of Environmental Design, the School of Information, Mathematics, Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Physics, Space Sciences, the Digital Humanities at Berkeley, the Berkeley Center for New Media (BCNM), the Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) and others. Pedagogy CNMAT's pedagogy program is aligned with the Department of Music's graduate and undergraduate programs in music performance and composition. Courses are offered through the Department of Music that highlight the more than 25 years of cutting-edge research and development that is CNMAT's history. We offer a wide range of opportunities for UC Berkeley students, visiting scholars, artists, and music lovers. Our software packages for music research and creation are freely available to the public through GitHub and other sites. CNMAT offers a changing menu of summer workshops, with recent training in Max/MSP, spatial audio, new instrument design, and sensor research. These intensive workshops provide attendees with a comprehensive look at CNMAT's music technology research, development and practical application, as well as increase the participants familiarity with music and computing fundamentals. Students leave each workshop with an array of CNMAT-based tools to explore and use in their own work. Public Outreach In our Sound Spatialization Theater (SST), we present concerts that cross cultural and musical barriers and provide a forum for diverse lectures and demonstrations for students, faculty and the community.
