Open Rank Search: Assistant Professor Adjunct/Associate Professor Adjunct/Professor in the Practice and Head of Sound Design Concentration/Yale Repertory Theatre Sound Design Advisor
Reporting to the Co-Chairs of Design and the Deans at Yale School of Drama (YSD), oversees activities of, teaches classes in, and serves as mentor to students in the Sound Design concentration. Serves as Yale Repertory Theatre (YRT) Sound Design Advisor.
Teaching and Mentoring
Promote a commitment to anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of YSD/YRT.
In collaboration with Co-Chairs and Design faculty establish curriculum and class schedule; balance pedagogical needs with budgetary constraints, faculty and space availability. Ensure ongoing faculty and student evaluation of curriculum.
Oversee quality of teaching; participates in review of faculty. Ensure ongoing student review and evaluation.
Teach up to four courses per year in area(s) of expertise.
Establish and communicate expectations and requirements of the concentration to Sound Design students. Support, guide, encourage and evaluate their progress.
Define standards and process for student thesis. Serve as thesis advisor.
Foster YSD connections to field resources and promote career placement for Sound Design students and alumni.
Other duties as requested by Co-Chairs or Deans.
Administration and Recruiting
Collaborate with Co-Chairs and Design faculty to determine program strategy and policy.
In collaboration with Co-Chairs and Design faculty, hire faculty, including but not limited to, conducting searches, interviews,Â setting up and observing demonstration classes, calling references.Â In concert with Co-Chairs and Deans establish and negotiate salaries.
Select, contract and supervise lecturers, visiting faculty and workshop leaders.
Determine and implement student recruitment strategy and process.Â In concert with Design faculty, select incoming class, including conducting interviews, identifying top applicants, and following up with admitted students concerning site visits and matriculation.
Determine, oversee and monitor Sound Design resources.Â Oversee work-study assignments.
Handle requests for information about the program from prospective faculty, students, and the field, as well as recommendations for students and graduates as appropriate.
Represent program and serve as primary liaison and expert resource both within and outside the University.
Other related duties as requested by Co-Chairs or Deans.
Advise and mentor Sound Design students on all aspects of production work.
Serve as YRT Sound Design Advisor
In consultation with Artistic Director, coordinate YRT Sound Design assignments.Â
Serve as primary Sound Design Advisor and mentor for YSD productions.
