Cranbrook Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and innovative Strings/Orchestra teacher for the 2021-22 school year. Collaboration within a dynamic PreK-12 Performing Arts Department, commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of students, setting a positive tone, and mastery of at least one stringed instrument, are all critical components of this position. The ideal candidate creates and maintains an atmosphere of inclusion where students, teachers, and staff from all backgrounds are welcomed and celebrated in the areas of performing arts. An excellent teacher, conductor, and musician, this full-time member of the Cranbrook community teaches a wide variety of ages including beginning and 2nd-year strings at the Lower School, Intermediate and Advanced String Ensembles at the Middle School, and an Upper School Orchestra. In collaboration with the Coordinator of Performing Arts, the Orchestra Director is responsible for leading, directing, and providing artistic vision for the strings curriculum and orchestral performances across all divisions of the school. The Orchestra Director works closely with all performing arts faculty members, the Coordinator of Performing Arts, and other school leadership to ensure strong, cooperative relationships and high artistic standards.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Music or a related field with expertise in string pedagogy. Possessing an enthusiasm for teaching students at a range of age and ability levels and working with students who enjoy varied interests within the school community is a necessity. The right individual for this position values a highly collaborative approach to teaching and learning, a growth mindset, and a good sense of humor. Five or more years of experience teaching string ensembles is optimal.
