| The Career Coach provides comprehensive college-to-career coaching services to undergraduate students in one-on-one and group settings, and prepares and delivers workshops and programs across campus, with a focus on careers and education related to business and finance. This position specializes in students majoring in Economics, History, and related majors, as well as international students. This position works closely with the Employer Relations team to assist in developing career paths and opportunities for students interested in business and finance. The Vanderbilt Career Center serves undergraduate students enrolled full-time in the Blair School of Music, College of Arts and Science, School of Engineering and Peabody College, as well as graduate students in the Graduate School. In addition the Center provides career coaching to recent graduates (0-2 years) after graduation. The Center provides many opportunities for students to learn about and explore professional opportunities including internships, career coaching, credit-based career courses, workshops, career panels, on-campus recruiting, job fairs, and industry-based Treks. The Career Center also supports students who are seeking graduate school admission as well as prestigious scholarships and fellowships. The Center consists of a leadership team, a coaching team, an employer relations team, and support staff. Duties and Responsibilities - Provide strategic individual and group college-to-career transition coaching to Vanderbilt economics majors, students pursuing business/finance careers and international students. Provide specialized programs and workshops to facilitate the career development for all constituencies, including relevant networking and interviewing opportunities. Coaching sessions may include developing a networking strategy, conducting practice interviews, and reviewing job search correspondence and LinkedIn profiles.
- Enhance Career Center relationships with faculty by serving as a key resource for career development and career planning topics with various departments within Vanderbilt University, student organizations, programs under the auspices of the Dean of Students, and other venues to expand students' knowledge of opportunities and develop their ability to articulate their strengths, and the specific value of their major in the workplace.
- Work with the Employer Relations team to identify key employers and opportunities and assist students with the connection to the workplace through internships, full-time, part-time, and summer opportunities. Assists the ER team with events, special programming, and employer information sessions.
- Create handouts, webpages, and other marketing materials which support students in the college-to-career transition and educate them about the job market and myriad opportunities available to all majors. Design creative communication strategies (social media; email; etc.) to provide targeted communication to students and enhance student experience with the Career Center.
- Maintain accurate statistical reporting of activities through DoreWays and internal reporting systems. Work with team to assess outcome and value of programming and services.
Qualifications - Master's degree in business, higher education, international studies, counseling or related field, and at least 1 years' experience in career services, human resources, or an equivalent setting providing career placement activities--or Bachelor's degree in any subject and at least three (3) years' experience in career services or college student support services, including counseling, educational programming, working with faculty and employers, and administrative responsibilities.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of career decision-making and the job search process including: career assessment instruments, resume-writing, job search correspondence, interviewing (including behavioral interviews) and the summer job/internship search.
- Understanding and appreciation of the needs of students seeking highly competitive internships and full-time positions on Wall Street, in top-ranked consulting firms, and in other business-related fields.
- Demonstrated success in program and/or project management for at least one year.
- Knowledge of international job market and ways to access opportunities worldwide.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- High creativity, innovativeness, and an entrepreneurial style.
- Strong initiative, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
- Ability to work evening hours and a flexible schedule as needed.
