Barrow Street Nursery School seeks a Part-Time Early Childhood Music Specialist for the 2021 – 2022 school year.
Students are between the ages of 18 months and 5 years old at the start of the school year in September.
2- or 3-Day per week schedule of 20- to 30-minute music classes for all students, in small groups of up to 9 children at a time.
Teachers at Barrow Street are practitioners of progressive education within the context of a social studies based program and a mission driven school derived from a Reggio Emilia and Bank Street pedagogy.
The Music Specialist is responsible for:
Creation and implementation of developmentally appropriate music curriculum that can be adapted to children’s various interests, learning styles, and developmental needs.
Maintaining regular communication with administrators and classroom teachers about curriculum and the progress of classroom groups and individuals.
Potentially collaborating with other specialists (art, movement, science and pottery).
Emotionally responsive classroom management.

Cultural competence, willingness and ability to work collaboratively, and excellent communication skills are essential.
Demonstrated experience in teaching early childhood music required (Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or equivalent experience preferred).
Extensive training and experience in a music-based modality, like playing an instrument, singing, or similar.
Must demonstrate an understanding of basic music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts in a developmentally appropriate and age appropriate manner with toddlers and preschoolers.
Working history demonstrating flexibility, creativity, initiative and collaboration.
Demonstrated history of being a lifelong learner who continues their own growth through professional development.

Additional Salary Information: This is a part-time, 3 day per week role
