The general music teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student achievement and growth are primarily dependent on the work and efforts of the teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The teacher must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies and be an accomplished and proven accompanist. The teacher must demonstrate a passion for teaching music concepts, singing, playing rhythm instruments and recorder, movement and listening.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans a music program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students in grades K through 5.

Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.

Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.

Encourage creativity through music, drama and movement.

Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

Consults with colleagues, students, and or parents on a regular basis.

Attends staff meetings and serves on staff and or school committees.

Participates in staff development programs.

Partners with other members of the Music Department to assess, plan and execute refinements to the K-12 music experience for students

Collaborates with classroom teaching staff on multidisciplinary projects that promote community and love of music.

Leads the student chorus, inclusive of regular rehearsals and performances outside the school day.
