Reporting to the President of New England Conservatory (NEC), the Director of Cultural Equity and Belonging (CEB) will lead the establishment of NEC’s Center for Cultural Equity and Belonging to foster inclusivity, equity, and belonging in every aspect of the NEC community. In alignment with NEC’s mission, the Director will provide leadership and coordinate the development of community-wide plans and programming. The Director serves as the institutional and educational resource for guiding NEC’s efforts to nurture and cultivate cultural equity and provides coordinated leadership for equity issues across the campus. The successful candidate must be an outstanding manager, people and program-oriented, and passionate and knowledgeable about diversity, equity, and inclusion work who can ensure NEC’s consistent, intentional progress over the years to come.

Essential Functions:

• Build upon and coordinate NEC’s cultural equity plan to further advance cultural equity and belonging efforts in all aspects of NEC;
• Build partnerships with constituents across the institution, including NEC’s boards and alumni, to shape, support, and advance institutional goals relative to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging;
• Lead the establishment of a new Center for Cultural Equity and Belonging that facilitates community-building and identifies allies to support a supportive, vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive campus climate for all students, faculty, and staff, both on and off campus;
• Act as the CEB leader and strategist responsible for positively modeling desired leadership behaviors;
• Lead and support highly visible educational and awareness events and activities throughout the year to develop and strengthen cultural competency;
• Deliver practical solutions to societal and community issues through innovative programming and events;
• Ensure that diversity and inclusion initiatives are implemented in an integrated manner throughout the institution and that these initiatives are regularly assessed;
• Develop tools and techniques for monitoring evaluation and outcome measures of CEB initiatives;
• Partner with appropriate departments and staff to support students from diverse cultural backgrounds in their academic success and social development;
• Develop co-curricular cultural programming events on campus that intentionally connect students, faculty, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds in an effort to celebrate diversity, encourage dialogue, increase understanding, and support reconciliation;
• Partner with faculty and staff on projects and programs impacting diversity representation, inclusion culture, as well as student and parent experience;
• Serve as institutional representative on CEB issues at local, regional, and national events;
• Support the compliance of applicable federal, state, local and associational laws, rules, and regulations.
