Reporting to the Director of Impact and Public Policy, the Director of Social Responsibility & Inclusion informs and develops a range of equity-centered learning experiences that connect and inspire leaders and communities to build a more inclusive arts and culture sector. WESTAF’s 10-year vision and strategic plan articulates goals and metrics related to increasing opportunities, benefits, and resources for historically underrepresented communities in a manner that results in quantifiable and systemic change. The Director of Social Responsibility & Inclusion plays a primary role in achieving these goals with a focus on leadership development, grantmaking, thought leadership and activation of WESTAF’s diverse and expansive network of allies and partners.
As a member of the WESTAF leadership team, the Director of Social Responsibility & Inclusion is responsible for the management and implementation of programs designed to eliminate barriers and promote equitable outcomes for a broad set of internal and external stakeholders. The Director of Social Responsibility & Inclusion works closely with internal teams to create accountability measures for more equitable organizational practices, policies, products and programs. They cultivate and sustain relationships with individuals and organizations in communities to design relevant engagement opportunities that are responsive to expressed needs. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Director of Impact and Public Policy, and the leadership team, the Director of Social Responsibility & Inclusion applies an inclusion and equity lens to strengthening the arts field and catalyzing change.
Build and execute WESTAF programs and services that proactively advance equity by supporting BIPOC leaders, rural leaders, and leaders and organizations serving other underserved and under resourced communities in the West.
Strengthen reciprocal relationships and alliances with members of underrepresented communities across the West to expand engagement with WESTAF programs and services and increase WESTAF’s awareness of and sensitivity to their aspirations.
Working with the Director of Impact and Public Policy, set the strategic vision for and facilitate the creation of new programs or partnerships that advocate for equity and inclusion in arts and cultural organizations (including public sector arts agencies).
Oversee programmatic direction, implementation and evaluation of the Emerging Leaders of Color (ELC) Program.
Guide ongoing engagement and activation of the Leaders of Color alumni network at state, regional and national levels.
Represent WESTAF’s National Endowment for the Arts-funded TourWest grant program and the wider Regional Touring Program for performing arts presenters in the 13-state region by making grant awards, convening performing arts leaders professional development workshops, and attending annual regional and national performing arts conferences.
Direct the TourWest and Regional Touring Program by establishing strategy and setting budgets, policies, and guidelines to ensure equitable grantmaking in collaboration with the Grants Coordinator and Manager of Social Responsibility and Inclusion.
Oversee the WESTAF CARES Relief Fund for Organizations, CNMI CARES, WESTAF Regional Arts Resilience Fund, and future grantmaking programs.
Work with the Director of Impact and Public Policy and Director of Finance & Administration on TourWest, WESTAF CARES, and CNMI CARES grantmaking data analysis and reporting to the NEA and the data and reporting requirements of other current and future grant programs.
Collaborate with the Director of Impact and Public Policy to proactively engage state arts agencies and other arts and cultural policy leaders in diversity, inclusion, and equity through professional development, convenings, and/or presentations.
Serve as lead consultant for WESTAF’s Inclusion and Equity Advancement Services for arts and culture organizations in the West and nationally.
Oversee WESTAF’s accessibility work, including compliance with Arts Endowment and federal funding requirements, engagement with state arts agencies and other constituencies on accessibility issues, and developing WESTAF’s work in the area of disability culture more broadly.
Participate in community-led and/or -centered convenings or conversations that are aligned with WESTAF’s organizational principles and priorities.
Represent WESTAF’s vision and goals at relevant conferences, convenings, and important political functions.
Determine departmental and project budgets: this includes proposing budgets, coordinating with the leadership team regarding priorities, reviewing income and expenses monthly and projecting future financial activities for events and grant programs.
Support the Executive Director in the identification and solicitation of prospective donors or co-investors who also prioritize inclusion and equity.
Identify, vet and liaise with consultants to provide training that will enhance equity-related competencies for staff and foster an open and inclusive environment.
In collaboration with the leadership team, establish equity benchmarks throughout the organization that demonstrate progress toward stated goals.
Advise and support the development of culturally responsive technology systems that benefit artists and creative industries.
Working with the Executive Director, engage the Equity and Inclusion Committee, which promotes representative leadership and equity in the arts, to ensure the execution of the leadership and equity objectives within the strategic plan to incorporate the diverse perspectives of the region.
In coordination with the Executive Director, assist the board of trustees in executing their work and achieving WESTAF’s vision and strategic plan.
