East Tennessee State University Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for tenure track Assistant Professor of Physical Theatre to begin fall 2021.
The successful candidate will teach classes in Physical Theatre (covering topics such as clowning, mime, acrobatics, and aerial dance), be versed in a variety of Devising and Physical Theatre approaches (such as Viewpoints, Alexander Technique, Laban Movement Analysis, Lecoq), serve as Director for at least one physical theatre production per academic year, and participate in end of semester showcases. Mentoring student performers, academic advising, service on Department and University Committees, on-going external research/creative activity, and other service to the Department are required.
The growing department offers a BA in Theatre, is accredited by National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST), and includes concentrations in Design/Production, Musical Theatre, Acting, and General Theatre. Pending a successful hire in Physical Theatre, a new concentration in Physical Theatre is set for implementation Fall 2021. Construction on a new arts facility housing both theatre and music with a 200-seat flexible theatre, 1200 seat proscenium stage, and a recital hall is now completed (September 2020) and ready for student use.
