Brooklyn Friends School seeks to hire a part-time (two hours a day) Orchestra/IB Music Teacher to teach 5th-12th Grade Orchestra and IB Music, and support students as a Middle School advisor.

• An MA or MFA degree is preferable. Candidates should have a strong background in teaching string instruments and conducting school orchestras, as well as experience teaching middle and upper school students. Training and experience teaching IB Music (International Baccalaureate) is a plus.
• Comfort with and desire to utilize interactive, creative and inspirational teaching techniques, assessments, and technology in the classroom is desired.
• All Middle/Upper School teachers also serve in the capacity of Advisor to eight or nine Middle School students.
• Advisors oversee students' progress in all classes, serve as the primary contact with parents, and participate in other responsibilities such as overnight trips, leading anti-bias and social-justice activities, and facilitating service learning.

Responsibilities:

• Teach up to six sections of orchestra across middle and upper divisions
• Teach IB Music to 11th or 12th grade
• Direct winter and spring Orchestra Concerts
• Co-direct IB Music Concert
• Collaborate and plan with colleagues and the chair of the Performing Arts department to develop curriculum
• Serve as an advisor in the middle school

• Background in teaching string orchestra to preadolescent and adolescent students
• Experience with student-centered and progressive teaching methods preferred
• Experience in developing curriculum
• Experience with anti-bias and culturally responsive pedagogy
