The Tatnall School is seeking a qualified String Instructor to take the reins of an exceptional string program from September through November, while our String Instructor is on maternity leave. Responsibilities include teaching violin, viola, and cello in a variety of individual and small ensemble groupings, Middle School general music, as well as one section of Upper School "Foundations of Music." Teaching responsibilities may include teaching live classes on campus, online classes, or a combination of both, depending on COVID-19 guidelines. We are seeking an innovative and caring educator to continue to grow and develop this flourishing program.
Teach strings/music classes grades 5-12
Upper School Course: Foundation of Music
Knowledge of Google Suite platform, ability to learn Learning Management System and Flipgrid
Work collaboratively with other teachers
Plan and instruct 4 to 5 classes per day
Maintain instrument storage space and ensure safety precautions are followed by students
Communicate student progress clearly and effectively to students, parents, and faculty, through emails, meetings, and formal student reports
Report to the Chair of Music Department
Team-oriented and collaborative
Demonstrates patience and sense of humor with children
Strategic, flexible, reflective, and creative thinker
Takes initiative to build and implement new systems
Strong leadership and communication skills
Reliable and organized

Experience teaching private lessons, sectionals, and small groups (mixed or homogenous instrumentation) in the 5-12 grade range on violin, viola, and cello.
Strong understanding of string pedagogy and general music instruction and music literacy.
Preferred but not required:
Basic proficiency in piano and guitar and familiarity with DAW programs such as GarageBand or Soundtrap and notation software such as Sibelius or Noteflight.
Experience teaching individual, sectionals, and group lessons via an online platform like Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, or Google Meet.
