Job Summary: The Director of Individual Instruction is a leadership position which oversees individual instruction at Levine as well as the new student placement process and parent education initiatives. The Director works with Chairs and other Program Directors to implement programming strategies, direct and support innovation, meet recruitment and enrollment goals, and maintain and strengthen relationships between campuses, school programs, and other Levine programs. The Director of Individual Instruction facilitates best practices in teacher training and mentoring while supervising a diverse group of faculty and staff. They will create and implement internship and volunteer opportunities, utilizing relationships with local colleges and universities, to support leadership development and pre-professional learning opportunities.
Provide leadership, artistic/educational vision and direction for private instruction; develop future opportunities for expansion and growth by identifying and promoting innovative programming
Collaboratively set programming goals as part of the Education Leadership Team, and develop strategies to meet them
Direct the work and process of placing, transferring and orienting new students and families to private instruction
Work closely with Executive Team to create and monitor budget and financial goals, including tuition income projections/actuals
Under the direction of the Vice President of Music Education, hire and supervise faculty; oversee contracts and the faculty review process
In close collaboration with faculty, ensure that high standards are established and upheld for all programs, curricula, and related activities
Oversees student Merit and Honors Programs and the Faculty Grant Program for professional development
Work with faculty and other Program Directors to ensure that First Music, Camp and private lesson students are making the transition to other Levine program offerings
Provide leadership in the recruitment and retention of students; monitor enrollment including analysis of changes and trends to sustain growth and increase retention
Oversee the functions of the Student Services team which manages all aspects of student registration, enrollment and payment
Anticipate, listen and respond to the concerns of parents, students, faculty and staff; use discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information
Promote a culture that balances high performance with experimentation, that values learning, and is committed to accessibility, student achievement and customer service
Conduct annual program assessment and evaluation to set objectives, establish priorities, and provide ongoing feedback to faculty and staff
Regularly attend student and faculty performances
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent required; Master's degree in education or performance preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. High degree of comfort working with technology including specialized registration and CRM programs; proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Teams, Outlook and Excel. Ability to multi-task.
Experience: 2-4 years of supervisory, leadership and/or management experience.
Physical Demands: occasional lifting, approx. 25 lbs. Frequently sitting, working at keyboard, or interacting in an energetic teaching environment that includes walking, climbing stairs, stooping, bending.
