BB&N is seeking a full-time Upper School Chorale Teacher. Primary responsibilities include teaching, leading, directing four vocal ensembles, one ensemble of 25-30 students which performs a wide range of standard classical, folk/spirituals, and world music repertoire in two formal concerts a year, a 9th grade introductory ensemble, and two close harmony "a cappella" groups. The Chorale Teacher will serve as Co-Music Director, vocal coach, and pianist for annual school musical and collaborate with the Orchestra teacher in preparing the student instrumentalists to perform in the pit and organize and produce one "Cabaret" performance evening a year. Additional responsibilities include attending weekly Fine Arts Department and discipline-specific meetings, contributing to Fine Arts Department/Upper School initiatives as determined by the Department Head and the Upper School Director, and one other significant duty as determined by the Upper School Director. The Chorale Teacher will engage in the creative and institutional life of the Upper School.
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of experience teaching high school music or Chorale and as well as an understanding of the unique developmental stages of high school students. A Bachelor’s degree is required, and a Master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate is expected to have strong piano and vocal skills, conducting skills, arranging skills for all vocal combinations in both traditional "choral" styles and close harmony "a cappella" styles.
