Eastern Michigan University School of Music & Dance seeks qualified candidates for an immediate opening for the position of Associate Director of Bands. The position is a full-time tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Anticipated start date: August 1, 2020.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct the Symphonic Band and Concert Band, direct the EMU Marching Band, teach courses in conducting and instrumental music education, and assist the Director of Bands with recruitment events and the administration of a comprehensive university band program. Additional duties may include assignments appropriate to the candidate's strengths and the department's needs, as determined by the School Director.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between EMU and the EMU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
An earned doctorate is preferred; master's degree plus 18 hrs. graduate credit--or equivalent professional experience--is required. Outstanding musician, conductor, and educator with an established record of success teaching in both collegiate and secondary school settings. Significant experience with college marching band is preferred. The successful candidate will be an innovative thinker with strong organizational and leadership skills, who thrives in a collaborative environment.
