The Director of Development is the primary individual leadership gift officer of the State Theatre New Jersey. Additionally, the position is responsible for overseeing all Development staff and their specific activities related to their positions (i.e., Manager of Corporate & Foundation Relations, Director of Special Events & Donor Relations, Manager of Annual Giving & Development Operations, Capital Campaign Director, and sub-contracted Consultants).

Roles and Responsibilities:
Leadership Gifts and Board Development Committee liaison:
In coordination with Development staff, create, oversee, and implement annual fundraising and membership campaigns to attract philanthropic support for State Theatre New Jersey.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual leadership gift prospects and donors including Chairman’s Council, President’s Council, and Next Stage Campaign donors with comprehensive giving capacity (specific attention to be given to growing leadership gift portfolio at donor levels $2,500/$5,500 and above).
Work with Director of Special Events and Donor Relations to acquire special event sponsorships.
Plan and implement appropriate face-to-face solicitations for leadership gift level prospects.
In coordination with Executive Vice President of Marketing & Development, revise renewal program for President’s Council to encourage increased annual giving.
In coordination with Executive Vice President of Marketing & Development and Manager of Corporate & Foundation Relations, develop strategy for renewed and new institutional support. Attend solicitations, when appropriate.
Work with Executive Vice President of Marketing & Development and Board of Trustees Resource Development Committee Chairperson to create and implement an aggressive Board giving program.
Work with Executive Vice President of Marketing & Development and Board of Trustees Resource Development Committee Chairperson to streamline Advisory and Business Councils, creating ad-hoc Development Committee members responsible for supporting all Development activities including annual giving, Capital campaign, membership, business sponsorship, and events.
In coordination with Executive Vice President of Marketing & Development and Manager of Annual Giving & Development Operations, develop a patron giving plan.
Collaborate with Marketing staff to ensure agreed upon donor centric messaging is in line with Development activities.
Management of Development Activities and Staff:
Ensure that all Development staff are remaining accountable to their individual Development plans and goals (Corporate and Foundations, Events, Annual Giving, Capital Campaign, Development Operations).
Create agendas for weekly Development Staff meetings. Oversee and guide the meetings based on the agreed upon agenda.
Maintain adherence to the Development budget. When external and internal factors impact budget lines, immediately advise Executive Vice President of Marketing & Development.
Work with Executive Vice President of Marketing & Development to create plan to address any shortfalls/gaps/challenges.
Provide strategic guidance for Development staff when challenges arise operationally or with donors/members.
Meet weekly with Executive Vice President of Marketing & Development to discuss progress of Development plans.
5+ years minimum of non-profit fundraising experience with increasing responsibility
Strong interpersonal and cultivation skills
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment
Ability to manage a variety of assignments concurrently and meet multiple deadlines
Ability to manage a team of fundraising and support staff
Experience in using data analysis to inform (inform donor and prospect strategies)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products with emphasis on Excel and Word
Knowledge and appreciation of performing arts
Experience with Tessitura software or other CRM transactional database
Experience working with reporting software and utilities
