Boston Conservatory at Berklee invites applications for the position of Assistant Chair of the Voice Department. The ideal candidate for this position will be a motivated, creative professional who is committed to excellence in the education of singers, has a demonstrated record of teaching and performance, and enjoys working in a campus community that actively promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding. This is a 12-month full-time administrative position with renewable contract; the initial appointment will begin September 1, 2020 . Compensation is commensurate with professional experience.
Voice Department at Boston Conservatory at Berklee: The Voice Department is situated within the Music Division and comprises the Voice Performance Program, the Choral Studies Program, the Opera Program, the Vocal Pedagogy Program. The Department offers 10 unique degree programs to 120 voice majors at the undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate levels.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
National and international recruitment for students in all voice-area programs;
Management of guest artists and masterclass series;
Management of departmental outreach
Production of Latinx Concerts, Spirituals Concerts, and related programs
Oversight of departmental juries, pre-recitals, auditions, etc.
Teaching based on individual's experience and area of specialization
Assist Chair with:
faculty supervision, evaluation, and development
development of curricular and extra-curricular offerings
management and development of the Vocal/Choral Intensive summer program for high school aged singers
supervision of the department's musical and educational direction, including development and implementation of department goals and objectives, curriculum management and development, fulfilling strategic vision and goals
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
High degree of organization
Pedagogical expertise in the classroom and/or in the studio
Master's Degree or comparable professional experience
Minimum of 3 years teaching in accredited Higher Education Institution
Minimum of 2 years administrative experience
A demonstrated openness to diverse musical styles and ways of learning/teaching
Experience in, and enthusiasm for, working with a diverse faculty and student body
