Stuart’s Opera House, with an annual operating budget of $1.7M, is the cornerstone of the historic Public Square in Nelsonville, is dedicated to its role as a regional leader in the arts community, a center for public expression, and an economic development partner for Southeast Ohio.
The Development Director is a new position created to facilitate our ability to meet our expanding fundraising needs due to the expansion of our facility, staff, and programming. This position would supervise the full-time Development Associate position.
The Development Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all development and fundraising activities at Stuart’s Opera House with an emphasis on developing and implementing a fundraising plan, supervising development staff, and securing new and significant annual gifts to grow and sustain a dynamic and successful nonprofit arts organization in Southeast Ohio.
Stuart’s Opera House also produces the highly successful Nelsonville Music Festival (15th anniversary in 2019) and other outside events for which the Development Director is tasked with securing significant brand appropriate annual corporate sponsorships and partnerships.
Development responsibilities include corporate sponsorship, individual membership, grants, foundation support, planned giving, endowment, capital campaign, and events.
The Development Director will be tasked with achieving a pre-determined annual financial fundraising goal.

Thorough understanding of sustainable non-profit development and fundraising philosophies
Ability to create and successfully implement achievable multi-year fundraising plan
At least five years of proven experience raising funds from both large and small donors
Passion for Stuart’s Opera House’s mission and ability to communicate it to others
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and see the “big picture”
Excellent communication skills, in person and both written and verbal
Strong desire to get out of the office, build external relationships, initiate donor visits and fundraising calls
Ability to use a database system to analyze information, develop prospects, and run reports (Stuart’s Opera House currently uses GiftWorks)
Proven ability to manage and coach a diverse team of staff and volunteers to achieve goals
Ability to take the initiative and also work collaboratively and supportively as needed
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
