At our 180 seat theater we feature independent films, live music, comedy and performances. With flexible seating options, from intimate banquette table seating to traditional fixed theater seats, as well as a balcony overlooking the stage, HT is a place where everyone can feel comfortable.
HT is seeking a full time Executive Director to lead our emerging cultural center into its third season and expansion, to champion its mission and reinforce the theater’s brand through all aspects of operations, marketing and programming. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing the administration, programming, marketing and strategic plan of Hopewell Theater, as well as being a key player on the strategic planning team for the Theater’s restaurant expansion. HT is adding a restaurant to its arts complex that will enhance what the theater can offer in terms of membership, private events, and programming. The restaurant will have its own executive team.
The company is seeking an individual with strong leadership abilities, namely the ability to lead staff with warmth, and integrity, to harness their team’s expertise and intelligence in their respective roles and to inspire team members’ commitment to HT. Using their existing relationships and by building new ones the Executive Director will be responsible for growing HT’s sponsorship and programming possibilities to increase revenue, undertaking organizational development initiatives that will establish tools to evaluate, develop and set goals with staff, and to undertake annual budgeting and strategic planning to reach company goals of increasing audience share, brand reach, talent relationships and financial success. The Executive Director will participate in the strategic planning for the Theater-restaurant expansion by offering input on Theater-restaurant shared systems and collaboration, and by seeking and representing the input of Theater staff.
The position reports directly to owner-founders.
Required Skills and Experience:
At least five+ years in an executive leadership position running a performing arts, theater or live events company or organization with over ten employees
Demonstrated success creating ingenious arts or film programming for the public
Demonstrated financial success in arts programming including a comprehensive understanding of P&L’s, balance sheets, and financial management
Experience creating and executing budgets for a project, company or organization with over $250,000 annual budget
Existing talent/agent relationships in indie film, music and/or performing arts
Experience with developing corporate sponsorship programs
Demonstrated experience leading a team from various departments
At least five+ years in a role with fiduciary responsibility
Experience working in a start-up environment
Professional exposure to marketing and branding for a project or company with a comprehensive understanding of digital, print and social media marketing, web development, analytics and metrics
Previous experience with or exposure to front of house management preferred
Track record for building community through arts programming and partnerships preferred
Experience with HR procedures preferred, i.e. setting up systems for staff hiring, performance review, disciplinary action/feedback and termination.
