GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Production Director at the Community Arts Center is a dynamic position charged with overseeing the production elements of all live events on the stage. The Production Director reports to the Executive Director, manages all production staff, and collaborates with all other CAC team members.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Production Director (PD) manages and delegates the execution of all production elements of a live event including production labor, advancing shows, production cost estimates for potential future performances, lighting, sound, rigging, carpentry, load in/ out, and other elements as needed.
The PD serves as the production point of contact for touring acts, promoter rentals, and local renters. This incudes labor calls, production departments, vehicles and loading dock, and touring company hospitality.
The PD hires and manages all stage crew and oversees training in all production areas including lighting, sound, rigging, stage management, wardrobe, scenery, loaders, and properties.
The PD is responsible for trouble shooting and creative problem solving with CAC staff and artistic staff to solve issues that come up in a timely fashion.
The PD is responsible for reporting accurately and promptly all performance and event settlement information as necessary to the Director of Finance.
The PD is responsible for handling all financial information for payroll and vendor information in a timely fashion to the Director of Finance.
The PD collaborates with the Executive Director and other Staff as needed to coordinate and schedule all events and event staffing needs backstage.
The PD assists the Administrative Staff in creating event and seasonal budgets and explains and advocates for all needs and issues surrounding the production department.
The PD in rotation with the Production Coordinator shall serve as the Production Lead for an individual event. The Production Lead is in charge of the technical staff on the day of a show from before load in until the staff is dismissed at the end of the call. They are also responsible for communication with CAC event staff, renters, and touring staff.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The PD manages the Backstage and Production areas of the CAC to monitor all inventory, provide security and integrity of all facilities and personnel, and maintain a clean and presentable appearance to the public.
Provide Executive Director and Finance Director with annual and long-term budget information for replacement and/or purchase of equipment.
Oversees general maintenance and facility upkeep of production areas; works closely with the Maintenance Manager and PCT General Services.
The PD is responsible for timely reporting to the Executive Director of any concerns about safety, overall maintenance, renovation, and/or restoration of the CAC.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred. Industry experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
Experience: 5+ years’ of live event production or equivalent experience.
Knowledge: Familiarity with all genres of performing arts and all areas of technical theatre: lighting, sound, properties, rigging, carpentry, etc.
Integrity: A track record of maintaining highest standards of industry safety and working conditions. A Strong reputation for honesty, integrity, strong leadership and management skills.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written Communication skills and the ability to network with local and regional performing arts organizations.
Necessary Skills and Abilities: Proficient at all industry technical software, and standard Office software (i.e. Word, Excel), calendaring, e-mail, etc. Must be able to accommodate flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends. Able to climb, lift 50+ pounds, maintain while standing or walking 8+ hours a day.
