This position directs Carolina Performing Arts’ new Creative Futures initiative, a four year Andrew W. Mellon Foundation-funded initiative with the aim of establishing a new model for community engagement through artistic creation. Creative Futures is comprised of a series of multi-year projects through which we will engage artists, communities, faculty, and students in co-creative partnerships. Informed by scholarship and research, these partnerships will empower communities to express their creativity and channel relevant issues, enrich university teaching and learning, and pioneer a new model for commissioning work. The Program Director for Creative Futures will report to Carolina Performing Arts’ Director of Programming.
Primary functions of this position include executing a complex and transformative grant in the context of a long-term relationship with a major international funder, supporting the development and sustainability of diverse co-creative teams which include visiting artists, UNC faculty, and community members, and directing related student and faculty initiatives.
Expected outcomes of Creative Futures include empowerment of communities to leverage and benefit from collective self-expression, public engagement with identified communities, artistic representation of faculty research and teaching, and deepening of undergraduate investment in the arts and local communities.
