Shippensburg University is currently searching for an experienced and innovative Director to lead the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center (LPAC). The LPAC, the region’s premier 1,488 seat performing arts center, is in its thirteenth season. The LPAC is part of the Division of External and University Relations and the Director is under the supervision of the Chief External Relations Officer.
The Director is responsible for the leadership and overall management, promotion and efficient, professional and profitable operation of the Luhrs Center. The Director is responsible for operation of the facility, including booking, marketing, finance, box office, production, and related operations for a performing arts center. This position is responsible for the development, coordination and management of all aspects and strategies for the PAC events including strategic planning, fundraising and contract negotiations. The director will also serve as the manager of the Center’s alcohol license and must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Key responsibilities include:
Arranges for and otherwise books events at the venue with a strong ability in negotiating, structuring and documenting contractual agreements
Develops and maintains relationships with reputable promoters, local market contacts, agents and talent affiliates to attract concerts, shows, entertainment events, etc.
Generates for finance, in a timely manner, financial and other reports detailing the Luhrs activities
Prepare a proposed annual operating budget and submit proposed budget to finance
Oversees day to day operation, ensuring all technical and staff resource needs for all events, oversees plans for allocating those resources, and successfully manages their efficient implementation
Oversees and manages all aspects of the facility staff, including but not limited to operations, marketing, finance, box office and front and back of house operations
Insure all contracts regarding the venue are in compliance with the PA State System of Higher Education
Generates and reviews financial reports, including budgets, projections, forecasting, revenue analysis, labor and product costs, wage and salary control, P&L financial statements
Develops an effective management team; gives the managers clear direction, and provides the necessary assistance for them to perform their work
Evaluates staff performances and makes recommendations for their improvement
Works with senior management to create a vision and strategy for the performing arts
Establishes and maintains personal relationships with agents, promoters and other key internal and external clients
Assists with the development of long-range fund raising strategic planning and works with the Shippensburg University Foundation on sponsorships and Circle of Friends annual support
Develops, maintains and executes all marketing, advertising and branding plans in coordination with the university marketing department
Serves as manager of the alcohol license
Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business, administration, entertainment or a related field and a minimum of ten years of experience in a senior management position in a performing arts center or related public assembly facility; five years of which must include booking and contract negotiation experience. The candidate must have a proven track record of developing, cultivating, and maintaining strong entertainment industry relationships, and booking high profile events. The ability to research, develop and maintain relationships with artist agents, artist management as well as local, regional and national agents/promoters is required. Possession of a thorough knowledge of the principals and practices utilized in the successful, profitable management of a public assembly facility is required. Demonstrated knowledge of event solicitation and presentation, public relations, advertising and media relations and event planning, facility operations, budget preparation and personnel management is also required. The candidate must have proven leadership skills including the ability to apply conflict resolution and problem solving skills in a team-oriented environment and the ability to express ideas clearly through both oral and written communication. Knowledge of budget preparation and control, sales and marketing, and safety regulations and risk management as related to venue safety are required skills. The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and be engaged with the university, community and foundation partners is required. A solid working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to communicate with a diverse campus and community population is required. The successful candidate must be able to be approved by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to manage the center’s alcohol license. Successful performance in an on-campus interview is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a higher education institution is preferred.
