PS21 is looking for an Executive Director who is a visionary, innovative leader and has extensive experience in managing a non-profit performing arts organization. The new Executive Director will have the rare opportunity to lead PS21 through an exciting, creative phase in its development with the assistance of an experienced, enthusiastic staff. This is a pivotal time for PS21 as it transitions from presenting a summer season under a tent to presenting year-round performances in a new state-of-the-art theater. Located in the upper Hudson Valley just outside of the village of Chatham, NY, PS21 presents dance, music and theater performances enhanced by an arts education program.
A bachelor’s degree and/or advanced degree* in a related field with at least five years management experience in a nonprofit organization, with significant experience in the arts or a related area
Prior experience as executive leadership is a plus
A clear and pleasant manner of communicating with an easy ability to form relationships and connect with people of all walks of life
Proven record as a successful fundraiser and marketer
Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills
Ability to pay attention to detail while maintaining big-picture drive and goals
Ability to encourage collaboration and positively motivate and develop staff, board, and volunteers
Visionary and innovative thinker
Commitment to achieving ambitious goals within limited resources
About PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century
Set in an apple orchard in the foothills of the Berkshires, PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century presents dance, music and theater performances as well as performing arts workshops and movie screenings.
From 2006 through 2017, PS21 presented a summer season under a saddlespan tent. In the spring of 2018, PS21 opened a new state-of-the-art facility. The innovative multi-use design accommodates two venues in one stunning building: an intimate black box theater that opens up in the summer months to become a proscenium stage with open-air seating for 300, protected by a sweeping pavilion roof. PS21 has presented a variety of prominent contemporary dance companies including Parsons Dance, Dance Heginbotham, Caleb Teicher & Company, TAKE Dance, Keigwin & Company, RIOULT Dance, RubberbanDANCE, The Chase Brock Experience, Gallim Dance, Jamal Jackson Dance, Vanaver Caravan, PearsonWidrig, Lionel Popkin, and Monica Bill Barnes & Company. Music performances have included a range of traditions including classical, bluegrass, klezmer, Middle Eastern, Irish, Mexican, West African, and Cuban. PS21 has hosted Rory Block, Eugene Drucker, Dom Flemons, Simone Dinnerstein. Dafnis Prieto, Tony Triscka, Simon Shaheen, Elliot Fisk, and Yehuda Hanani among others.
