Theater Program - Dance & Movement Lecturer/Professor - Open Rank New York University Abu Dhabi
The NYU Abu Dhabi Theater Program is an academic and artistic laboratory dedicated to theater research, scholarship and practice. Reflecting the global vision of NYUAD, a cosmopolitan liberal arts university, we provide a rigorous approach to artist training, a solid scholarly foundation in theater history, theory and criticism, and exposure to a variety of transnational cultural practices through the study of theater both here and abroad. For NYUAD theater majors, making and thinking – creating and articulating— culture are inseparable tasks. Our aim is to develop artist-citizens whose theatrical contributions will expand the limits of the field and make a difference in the world. We expect NYUAD Theater graduates to collaborate eagerly with other artists, scientists and scholars across disciplines to and invent new and hybrid cultural practices that will come to define what theater will be in the 21st century.
NYUAD Theater Program seeks an educator whose work is located in both practice and scholarship to develop our BA curriculum in the area of design. The ideal candidate will have a background as a collaborator in any area of design for Theater and/or Performance. We do not seek a generalist, we see a striking and dynamic artist and educator, able to model paths to knowledge for our students, approaches to collaboration, and to support the students in the development of their own powerful and subjective artistry. Candidates should have an interest in shaping new models of aesthetics and design training within a global framework and the ability to work in a range of styles (e.g., from classical to contemporary; proscenium to site-specific.)
The NYUAD Theater Program is committed to blurring the line between practice and scholarship. The ideal candidate will be deeply interested in interdisciplinary work and committed to working collaboratively on creating curriculum and mentoring student projects, from technical, theoretical and aesthetic perspectives. Responsibilities include serving as an academic advisor for some BA Theater majors; serving as a faculty advisor for student projects and interest groups; collaborations with faculty, instructors, and staff in ongoing program and curriculum development; and support for research endeavors. In addition to their work as a practitioner, the ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate their work as a thinker in our field. All courses will be geared to advance the practice and scholarship of students across a broad spectrum of academic and creative interests. Students will have a range of experience levels.
