From the Top (FTT), America's largest national platform dedicated to celebrating the exceptional talent, stories, and character of classically-trained young musicians, seeks a visionary new Executive Director to lead the organization and shape its future. This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial, creative, and energetic individual who is passionate about the performing arts and the development of young artists to reimagine the organization and guide FTT into the new media world while upholding FTT's recognized standards of excellence in presentation and programming.
Founded in Boston in 1995 by Gerald Slavet and Jennifer Hurley-Wales, From the Top originated as a variety-style radio show featuring live music from young classically trained musicians and their personal stories as artists and kids. More than 20 years later, FTT's powerful and multi-faceted media presence, live tour, and innovative education programs all serve to trumpet the role of music to impact and enrich lives, inspire new audiences toward a deeper appreciation for classical music, and unleash the potential of pre-collegiate musicians as leaders in the arts. FTT transforms the lives of hundreds of artists each year, inspires millions of fans, and pioneers new ways to unite communities around the promise of outstanding talent. Since its inception, more than 3,000 musicians have been impacted by FTT's national media exposure, performance opportunities, and arts leadership education programming, and over 240 artists have received substantial support through their generous scholarship programs.
After 20-plus years of success at the helm, outgoing co-founders and co-CEOs Jennifer Hurley-Wales and Gerald Slavet have made the thoughtful and deliberate decision to step down from their roles in order to make room for the next generation of FTT leadership. As FTT plans for this leadership transition, the organization is ready for re-imagination and reinvention. A rapidly changing media landscape means the opportunity to explore new realms of content production and delivery to new and existing audiences. Assets are considerable. FTT has developed a strong national brand with renowned radio host Christopher O'Riley and has achieved field-leading recognition in the promotion of exceptional young talent in classical music while also ensuring a culture of fun with performers and audiences. Excellence and innovation is in its DNA: FTT consistently strives to create the absolute highest quality performances, productions, and imaginative educational programming.
The next Executive Director will be the chief visionary, marketer, and ambassador guiding FTT in its next iteration. She or he will provide strategic and inspiring leadership to FTT, clarifying its distinct mission and programming moving forward, while ensuring that the organization continues to support and celebrate the excellence of young musicians and provide them with the platform and tools for leadership in the performing arts. The next Executive Director will have a strong record of implementing successful entrepreneurial endeavors, experience diversifying revenue streams and increasing financial stability, consummate management skills, and the ability to work effectively and foster collaboration in a multidisciplinary context. She or he will require and exercise a deep appreciation for and broad understanding of multimedia and the performing arts. The successful candidate will bring creativity, optimism, fearlessness, flexibility, tenacity, resilience, and a lively, entrepreneurial spirit.
FTT has engaged Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in the search. Nominations, inquiries, and applications (including resume and letter of interest) should be sent electronically in confidence via www.imsearch.com/6208.
