Yale School of Drama seeks a professor to teach and advise students and to serve in an administrative capacity for the nation’s leading three-year conservatory MFA & DFA dramaturgy and dramatic criticism program. The successful candidate will teach classes in at least three fields for MFA students in this professional creative training program, advise MFA and DFA students, support the Chair in maintaining a dynamic curriculum, and coordinate the program’s guest speaker series. Candidates with expertise in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply: theory (drama, theater, and performance); Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic or other aspects of pre-20th-century drama or theater history; global theater (Asian, Latin American, other); critical writing; academic and dramaturgical research methodologies.
Position requires demonstrated excellence in the field with at least seven years’ undergraduate/graduate teaching experience, a record of extensive publications, and experience in mentoring. An understanding of the School’s dynamic conservatory environment and dramaturgical practice is essential. PhD or DFA required. Experience in and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of operations required. The appointment will be as an Associate Professor Adjunct or Professor in the Practice of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism for an initial term of up to three (3) years, beginning July 1, 2017, renewable, and includes competitive salary with full faculty benefits.
