McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ is accepting applications for the position of Director of Production. The Director of Production is a senior staff member, and reports directly to the Managing Director in support of the theatre’s mission and the artistic vision of the Artistic Director and Special Programing Director. McCarter is a Tony award-winning regional theatre, producing six mainstage plays each season (including an annual production of A Christmas Carol). In addition, McCarter presents upwards of 50 world-class performances and events, including dance, jazz, classical, world music, pop/rock concerts, and family performances. The facility includes two stages: the 370-seat LORT C Berlind Theatre and the 1050-seat LORT B+ Matthews Theatre. The annual operating budget is $13M. The Director of Production oversees 30+ full-time staff members as they plan for, build, rehearse, run, and support every performance. Responsibilities include budget creation and oversight, designer contracts, presented series agreements, departmental recruitment and hiring, and creation of the master production calendar. Direct reports include the Technical Director, Costume Manager, Prop Master, Resident Stage Manager, Stage Supervisor, and Production Coordinator. The Director of Production works closely with the Artistic Staff and General Management. Applicants should be highly collaborative, have a deep understanding of the artistic process, possess at least five years’ production management experience, and have excellent leadership skills. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrable experience advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion.
