Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director of the Strand Center For The Arts (SCA) is charged with external and community relations, fund-raising, strategic planning, and artistic and programming policy, as well as operational, financial and administrative management.
Our current budget is $700,000 but we have shown exponential growth in the last few years with continued future potential. The SCA has 4 FT and 2 PT staff members, as well as box office and front of house staff, production crew, and teaching artists as needed. SCA is partially funded by NYSCA and receives broad support from the community. The SCA has varied, and innovative programming including, visual arts, a Clay Studio, Fiber Arts, theatre and many multi-disciplinary workshops. Its public spaces include a 14,000 sq ft building with gallery, classrooms and offices as well as a 940-seat restored Historic Theatre next door.
The ideal candidate will have three to five years management or assistant management experience in the cultural sector, preferably in a performing arts venue and a proven track record of collaboration and innovation. A degree in arts or business administration or equivalent experience in the field would be desirable. The Executive Director must be a strategic thinker and someone who maintains a high professional profile, is able to secure financial resources, exhibits a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and develops collaborative relationships with others. The new Executive Director will have demonstrated leadership in motivating and inspiring a diverse work force.
Plus have a passion for the performing arts and arts education, political savvy, exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Salary commensurate with experience!: Plus Increases, bonuses and incentives will be directly tied to revenue growth and sustainability of the organization.

An industry professional with existing networks within the cultural sector and a personal vision of how the arts play a role within the life of a small community.

The Strand Center for the Arts is a 501c3 multi arts organization in Plattsburgh, NY. Located on the shores of Lake Champlain, we are 1 hour south of Montreal and 2.5 hours north of Albany NY. We were founded in 2000 as a gallery and arts education organization, but in 2004 we purchased and set out to restored a 1924 Vaudeville theatre. In 2015, the restoration was finished and we are now building our reputation as a quality performance venue.
