Job Summary – The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts seeks a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve as an integral member of the senior management team. The COO will be responsible for overseeing CAPA’s business operations and contributing to the development of the organization’s strategic goals. This position provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the company has the proper processes, technology, and people in place to position CAPA to meet operational objectives.
The COO will report to and work closely with CAPA’s President & CEO to advance the organization’s strategic goals. Additionally, the COO will act on behalf of CAPA’s President & CEO in appropriate situations as dictated by the President & CEO.
Provides executive leadership to CAPA and the shared services organizations as directed by CAPA’s President & CEO.
Reports to the board of trustees and various board committees on a regular basis, with an emphasis on operational aspects of each respective organization.
Oversees a variety of projects that will improve CAPA’s business operations through improvements in technology, processes, and staffing. Delivers projects on-time and on-budget.
Reviews opportunities for business development with the President of CAPA. Evaluates operational and financial impact of new projects and initiatives.
Responsible for resource management, ensuring resources are allocated in a manner that supports the achievement of short and long term goals, including financial resources, physical resources, human resources, and IT resources.
Strategizes, collaborates, and advises the leaders of CAPA’s shared services organizations to support them in meeting their organizational goals.
Ensures coordination of activities and objectives between all functional areas, including Marketing, Fundraising, Programming, Operations, Accounting, and Ticketing.
Oversees and directs policies and procedures related to CAPA’s operations and leads efforts for process improvement and performance enhancement throughout the organization.
Analyzes operations to evaluate performance of CAPA and its staff in meeting objectives and determines areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
Implements systems to improve CAPA’s operations and provides successful integration of company-wide activities.
Identifies and leverages cross-organizational strengths to take advantage of new opportunities and/or to address organizational challenges.
Encourages and creates collaboration between functional departments that improves CAPA’s business operations.
Undergraduate degree in Arts Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is required, with Master’s Degree preferred
Minimum 10 years’ experience in senior level administration, with 5 years’ experience in non-profit management capacity preferred
Familiarity/experience with a variety of non-profit functions (marketing, fundraising, accounting, ticketing, HR, and IT) is preferred
Significant team-building and supervisory experience in non-profit environment, preferably working within dynamic cultural organizations
Significant experience working with external boards and committees
